Position Summary:
The Supervisor, Mooka’am provides clinical and operational leadership to an interdisciplinary team delivering culturally grounded services to children, youth, adults and families. The role supports consistent clinical practice, strengthens family-focused interventions, oversees staff performance and development, and builds relationships with internal programs and external partners. Through a Two-Eyed Seeing approach, the Supervisor brings Indigenous and contemporary clinical knowledge together to promote safe, coordinated and responsive service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervises Mooka’am clinical staff who provide individual, dyadic, family and group counselling and other clinical supports and interventions for children, youth, adults and families.
2. Provides operational and clinical oversight of the SickKids partnership and ensures that clinical staff are prepared to deliver family-focused services.
3. Provides clinical supervision and guidance across therapeutic modalities, including child-centered play interventions, youth mental health, adult services, parent–child and caregiver–child dyadic work, attachment-based practice and family work.
4. Leads a Two-Eyed Seeing approach that brings Indigenous knowledges, cultural practices and contemporary clinical interventions together in service delivery and clinical supervision.
5. Develops and delivers culturally grounded training that strengthens staff knowledge, practice and confidence in integrating Indigenous approaches to healing into clinical services.
6. Supervises Developmental Case Managers who provide service navigation and coordinated support to children and adults with exceptionalities, including fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, autism and medical conditions.
7.Provides direct supervision to staff, including hiring, determining work priorities, assigning duties, providing direction and training, setting performance standards, conducting performance appraisals, and taking corrective or disciplinary action if necessary.
8.  Provides direction to clinical staff and relays corporate mandates, goals and objectives.
9.  Serves as a clinical resource and provides or arranges clinic training.
10. Ensures that staff identify and respond to clients’ cultural needs, including facilitating appropriate access to Elders and Traditional Teachers.
11.  Monitors clinical practice to ensure services remain culturally responsive, family focused and consistent with agency standards.
12.  Maintains and updates program policies, procedures, clinical operations manuals and related practice guidance to support consistent and accountable service delivery.
13.  Protects the confidentiality and privacy of client, employee and Agency information in accordance with legal, ethical and organizational requirements.
14.  Develops and strengthens partnerships, service agreements and referral pathways with internal programs and external organizations.
15.  Maintains current knowledge of community resources and social service providers, builds effective working relationships and participates in community planning committees as appropriate.
16.  Facilitate communication among staff, clients, community resources and other stakeholders to support coordinated and responsive service delivery.
17.  Ensures compliance with program policies, procedures and funder requirements, including the accurate and timely completion of required reports.
18.  Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
Education and Experience
  • Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to healing, including land-based practices and cultural knowledge.
  • Connection to FNIM communities and knowledge and awareness of the diverse urban Indigenous population.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or a closely related field.
  • Three years of experience in clinical supervisory/management.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising staff in the areas of: Coaching, setting goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with NCFST plans and vision.
  • Experience organizing workflow and ensuring that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.
  • Familiarity with operational functions as they relate to managing attendance, vacation, sick time, etc.
  • Experience in program development is an asset.
  • Experience using Coyote Caseworks would be an asset.
  • Pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check Knowledge.
  • Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.
  • Understanding and grounding in cultural and social issues affecting Indigenous people.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation.
  • Understanding of clinic operations.
  • Knowledge of all relevant Acts, Regulations, Policies and Procedures.
Skills
  • Strong clinical skills in both contemporary and Indigenous traditional approaches to healing.   Leadership skills to provide direction, guidance and advice to staff, ability to lead a team through organizational change.
  • Excellent listening skills and adept conflict resolution/ problem solving.
  • Self-staffer, able to work autonomously and generate ideas and benefits for the Agency
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.

Work Environment:
·       Standard office environment; minimal physical demands.
·       Class G License and access to a vehicle would be an asset but not required.
